sewage & wastewater
YOUR HOUSE
Any water that drains from your home flows into your residential sewers. These sewers are the property owner's responsibility.
LOCAL SEWERS
These sewers are managed and maintained by your community. There are 61 communities in the Regional Sewer District's service area.
NEORSD
SEWERS
The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District manages large sewers called interceptors
that capture the flow from local sewers and transport it to a wastewater treatment
plant. These interceptors can be up to 20 feet wide.
TREATMENT PLANT
Wastewater treatment plants treat this sewage to meet very high standards before releasing it to the environment. The treatment process removes bacteria and debris from the flow coming into the Sewer District's three wastewater treatment plants to make it safe for the environment and public health.
RIVER/LAKE
The treated flow is released into the environment and tested regularly to ensure high water quality.
